Whether you are celebrating a special occasion, looking for an alternative Wedding or Engagement ring, or even treating yourself; Stephen can create a unique and hand-crafted piece of jewellery for you in his distinctive style.

Your own heirloom jewellery can also by upcycled to make a fresh new design, imbued with the precious memory of a loved one for generations to come.

The Process

Initially, Stephen can discuss ideas, materials, budget and timescale with you.

This can either be in person or by email. Stephen will then provide you with drawn design sketches.

When the design is agreed upon, the fitting and collection schedule is confirmed and a 50% deposit is paid.

Prior to the setting of any gemstones, Stephen will arrange a fitting, which can be in person, or by post.

Timescale

Jewellery commission items are specially made to order. Lead in time is 3-4 months, depending on my current workload.

Lichen Wedding ring with freeform Sapphire, white Moonstone, and a gorgeous Blue Moonstone

An oval profile hammered ring in 18ct yellow gold, 6mm wide x 3mm. With 3.5mm Mozambique Garnets, Madeira Citrines and Amethysts, flush set 3/4 around the ring. I love the rich colour combinations and the tactile surface. It reminds me of opulent Indian Moghul jewellery, and of Medieval art.

An organic sculptural collar that I made for Marie, to accompany her Ivy, Fern and Lichen Wedding ring. I upcycled the gold from family jewellery. Clustered Lichen pods, upon a naturalistic twig collar band, tapering to rounded terminals.

A Shoreline ring that I have made for Gwyn, inspired by sea foam crashing upon the shore. Silver, with rose gold granules, teardrop Sapphires, and little Diamonds

Inspired by Gustav Klimt, with clusters of gold seeds and patterns of golden discs, like an ancient Byzantine mosaic. With Rubies, Garnets, Opals and Diamond

Tectonic bracelet Wedding bracelet for Helen. Inspired by Earth’s seismic forces, where continental plates are continually colliding and separating upon the molten flows of our inner planet, creating, over millennia, spectacular mountain ranges, and awesome volcanic eruptions. Plates collide and overlap in these pieces, with a mineral rich Opal river running through the collide, bringing verdant growth of golden lichen and seed clusters upon Diamond encrusted silver rocks

Erosion ring for Beverley in Silver, yellow and rose gold. I’m really pleased with its delicate intricacy

Mermaid Treasure necklet for Kathleen, who lives in the Outer Hebrides. Seaweeds and barnacles holding Tsavorite, Blue Topaz and Emerald, evocative of the ocean, and the birthstones of Kathleen’s family and herself

A gold Gingko leaf pendant for Monica. Made by combining engraving and metal fusion techniques, as with all my leaf jewellery. I love how this innovative way of working with metal evokes the organic textures of nature. Ginkgo Biloba is the World’s oldest surviving genus. 200 million year old fossilised leaves have the same beautiful vein pattern as this pendant.

Delicate Stepping Stones ring for Vicky, to celebrate both her birthday and Wedding anniversary. 16 Sri Lanka Sapphires, in varying hues set in 9ct white gold pebbles, for her birthdate. Of which 6 are larger gemstones, to celebrate her 6th Wedding anniversary

Stepping Stones Eternity ring for Liz. A rainbow of multi-coloured Sapphires, Emerald and Blue Tourmaline. 18ct white gold. Rough-hewn, with the making marks of my tools, as though an ancient find from the medieval past.

Wedding ring for Natalie, inspired by the Glasgow designers Charles and Margaret Mackintosh.

Wild Wood ring for Gillian. A 4mm Aquamarine, with setting and a seed cluster in rose gold, and yellow gold tendrils, upon a bark textured silver band

Ivy leaves ring for Kate. 9ct rose gold leaves and tendrils curl around the yellow gold hammered band, and around a mossy oval Green Tourmaline. Tourmaline gemstones have a greater range of colours than any other semi-precious gemstone, and all of them are vibrant. Rich blue greens, to mossy greens, Kingfisher blues to the incredible Pariba luminous sea blue, and tones of deep pinks as well.

Bejewelled yellow and rose gold Erosion ring for Jenny. I’m lost in wonder looking at Byzantine and Mughal treasures: basilicas and palaces, mosaics and jewels, which are made more beautiful, and mystical, by the wear of time upon them. That’s the feeling I seek to evoke in this ring with its weathered golden surfaces, like a shimmering ancient icon. Opulent purples and violets swirl across the ring in varied Amethysts, Tanzanites and Iolite.
